UN Resident Coordinator a.i. and Director of the MDG-F Secretariat visit Tešanj Municipality


2/6/2010 Florance Bauer, Resident Coordinator UN a.i. and Sophie de Caen, Director of the MDG-F Secretariat from New York have visited Tešanj Municipality. This municipality started the implementation of the Culture for Development Programme that is being financed through the Millennium Development Goals Fund of the Kingdom of Spain.

The Intercultural Festival held in Sarajevo - MDG-F Programme Culture for Development


1/30/2010 More than 250 students and teachers from primary schools in 9 municipalities participated in the Intercultural Festival that was launched in Sarajevo at the International Center for Children and Youth. The Festival’s goal is to present the richness one customs and tradition of the peoples and minority groups in B-H, as well as to promote the development and protection of the minority rights, coexistence and tolerance. The Festival is organized within the MDG-F Programme Culture for Development.

Agreements for rehabilitation of five monuments signed within the MDG-F Programme Culture and Development


12/22/2009 Within the MDG-F Programme Culture for Development, UNESCO signed agreements on rehabilitation of five monuments with the designated representatives of municipalities and institutions. Along with the signing parties, the ceremony was attended by Biljana Čamur, Assistant to the Civil Affairs Minister of BH, Angela Petrović, Assistant to the Minister of Culture and Sports of FBiH, Irena Soldat-Vujanović, Assistant of Minister of Culture of RS, as well as representatives of the MDG-F Programme Culture and Development titled  “Improving Cultural Understanding in BH“.

UN in BiH marks 30th anniversary of Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women


12/18/2009 The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) was adopted on the 18th of December 1979 by the UN General Assembly. To date, 186 countries have ratified the Convention. CEDAW remains the essential international tool for achieving women’s human rights and it is one of the most widely subscribed-to international treaties in existence. Countries that have ratified or acceded to the Convention are legally bound to put its provisions into practice. They are also committed to submit national reports, at least every four years, on measures they have taken to comply with their treaty obligations.

UN Secretary-General message on the November 25 - International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

In the ten years since the United Nations General Assembly designated 25th November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, engagement has increased.  More groups and individuals, including men and boys, are getting involved in efforts to prevent and address this severe violation of women’s human rights.  Overall there has been significant progress as many countries have adopted laws and comprehensive action plans directly addressing violence against women.

11/10/2009 The three-day workshop for capacity building of 10 municipalities started today in hotel Grand, Sarajevo. The goal of the workshop is to define priorities and plans of activities within the implementation of the MDG-F Programme Culture for Development called “Improving Cultural Understanding in BH“, implemented by three UN agencies: UNDP, UNICEF and UNESCO.

Ambassador of Kingdom of Spain Alejandro Alvargonzález San Martin, signed programme documents for two MDG-F programmes: Economic Governance and Environment and Climate Change, as well as UNDP project BH Biomass Energy for Employment and Energy Security, with the total estimate value of 11 (eleven) million USD.

Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases

Although the numbers of people infected by HIV in BiH is low, the threat cannot be assumed away. Positive actions must be taken now if BiH is to avoid the pandemic gripping northeastern Europe.
