“The implementation of the programmes will be conducted in close coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BH as the state ministry with competencies in the areas of environment, energy and water and natural resources. I would also like to thank the entity ministries, municipal authorities and civil society organizations which contributed to formulating the projects and will participate in their implementation”, said Christine McNab, the UN Resident Coordinator.
The MDG-F Environment and Climate Change programme Mainstreaming environmental governance: linking local and national action in BH is supported through the Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund, funded by the Spanish government. The programme duration is 3 years, with an estimated budget of 5,499,863 USD. The Programme is jointly implemented by United Nations Development Programme/United Nations Volunteers (UNDP/UNV), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in partnership with the BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, the FBiH and RS Ministries of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management, the participating municipalities and civil society organisations.
The MDG-F Economic Governance programme Securing Access to Water through Institutional Development and Infrastructure is supported through the Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund funded by the Spanish government. The programme duration is 3 years, with an estimated budget of 4,450,000 USD. The Programme is jointly implemented by UNDP and UNICEF in partnership with the BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs, the FBiH and RS Ministries of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management, the participating municipalities and their associated water utility companies, and civil society organisations.
The project “BH Biomass Energy for Employment and Energy Security” will be implemented during 48 months with an estimated budget of 1,000,000 USD, financed by GEF (Global Environment Facility). It will be directly implemented by UNDP BH office. The key project objective is the reduction of CO2 equivalent emissions by an accumulated total of 80,000 tones over 15 years, by installing or retrofitting biomass boilers. These activities aim at the creation of sustainable markets for biomass energy. At the outset the project shall target the education sector (primary schools) in the three municipalities of Srebrenica region (Srebrenica, Bratunac, Miliĉi).
