The workshop that will take place from November 10 to 12 gathered 25 representatives of municipalities Bihać, Bijeljina, Gradiška, Jajce, Novo Sarajevo, Prijedor, Rudo, Sokolac, Srebrenik and Tešanj, which applications for integrative approach to the cultural development at local community level have been selected as the best. The goal of the three-day session is to define priorities and plans of activities proposed by the 10 municipalities.
Four components of the programme: improvement of cross-cultural understanding, strengthening of the cultural industries, improvement of the cultural heritage and improvement of cross-cultural education, will be implemented within the period September 2009 – September 2011. There are approximately 600,000 residents within the 10 municipalities that will implement the programme.
Culture for Development is a three-years partnership programme implemented by three United Nations agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely the UNDP, UNICEF and UNESCO, in close collaboration with the national Ministry of Civil Affairs, the entity Ministries of Culture and Education, as well as other institutions responsible for education and culture in the country. The programme is funded by the Spanish MDG Achievement Fund thematic window for Culture and Development with envisaged co-financing by the Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
