First meeting of the Programme Management Committee of MDG-F Economic Governance named Securing Access to Water through Institutional Development and Infrastructure was held today in Sarajevo, chaired by Mr. Naveed Hussain, UN Resident Coordinator, a.i..

The MDG-F Economic Governance named Securing Access to Water through Institutional Development and Infrastructure is supported through the Millenium Development Goal Fund financed by the Government of Spain, with planned duration of 3 years with an estimated budget of 4,450,000 USD. The Programme is jointly implemented by UNDP and UNICEF in partnership with the BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs, the FBiH and RS Ministries of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management, the participating municipalities and their associated water utility companies, and civil society organisations.

 

The Programme Management Committee reviewed and adopted the Terms of Reference for the Programme Management Committee and the Implementation Guidelines. PMC also confirmed the appointment of Slobodan Tadić as the Programme Manager/Coordinator.

 

Programme Management Committee members are Mr. Naveed Hussain, UN Resident Coordinator, a.i., Ms. Brankica Pandurević, Head of the Department of Water Resources and Tourism, Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations BiH, Mr. Aziz Čomor, Head of the Sector for Water Management, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management FbiH, Mr. Nebojša Jakšić, Advisor to Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management RS, Florence Bauer, representative of the UNICEF to BH, Mr. Igor Palandzic, Programme Analyst, Environment Cluster UNDP, Mr. Ventura Rodríguez, Program Manager for Economic Development and Environment of Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Mr. Aris Seferović, Secretary of the Programme Management Committee.

Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases

Although the numbers of people infected by HIV in BiH is low, the threat cannot be assumed away. Positive actions must be taken now if BiH is to avoid the pandemic gripping northeastern Europe.
