7/1/2010 Arts and crafts as a factor contributing to cultural heritage and cultural tourism and as a tool for achieving the MDGs were the main topics of three day workshop held by MDG-F Programme Culture for Development between June 29th and July 1st, 2010 in Sarajevo  This was the second workshop aiming to build capacities of artistic entrepreneurs from 23 municipalities countrywide that are either implementing the Programme, or their project applications were among the highest rated in the Programme’s selection process.

6/14/2010 MDG-F Programme Culture for Development and Ministry of Civil Affairs in BiH in cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary and Hungarian International Development Agency (HUN-IDA) organized seminars on EU Culture Program 2007-2013 in Prijedor, Tuzla and Mostar in the period from 7-11 June 2010. The seminars were attended by 78 participants from cultural institutions (ministries, museums, theaters, libraries etc.) as well from the civil society organizations (Roma NGOs, foundations, etc.).

6/3/2010 Yuri Afanasiev, Resident Coordinator of UN to BiH and Michael Moore, Director of the British Council Bosnia and Herzegovina signed a Memorandum of Understanding under the umbrella of MDG-F Programme Culture for Development. The memorandum outlines a set of programmatic activities under the Intercultural Navigator’s training methodology developed by the British Council and jointly implemented by the two parties in order to train local stakeholders, representatives of local, entity and state authorities and civil society on a variety of skills ranging from leadership to conflict management in multicultural environment.

Regional Conference "Roma Language and Culture: Past, Present and Future"


6/2/2010 Regional Conference “Roma Language and Culture – Past, Present and Future“ has been organized in Sarajevo on June 1st and 2nd by MDG-F Programme Culture for Development, NGO “Kali Sara” and OSCE. The goal of the conference was to promote standardization of the Roma language. 5/31/2010 Intense 5-day study visit was organized from May 24th to 28th by the Spanish Cooperation for Development and UN MDG-F Programme to enable transfer of knowledge and experiences from Spanish Culture institutions to representatives from key government institutions in BiH. New Piano Makes Gradiška's Culture Life Richer


4/26/2010 The new concert piano provided through the MDG-F Programme Culture for Development was promoted in Gradiška Culture Center's Concert Hall before more that 150 viewers. UNICEF Reiterates: Landmines Kill, Injure and Orphan Children


4/2/2010 Sarajevo – On the occasion of the April 4, International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, UNICEF and its partners reiterate that landmines and explosive remnants of war continue to represent a high risk in affected communities. As UN Secretary General stresses these indiscriminate weapons cause grievous injuries and death, hamper reconstruction, damage the environment, and are an obstacle to socioeconomic and development activities long after conflicts have ended. Over 5000 people in the world were killed or maimed by landmines in 2008. Children - particularly boys - are most likely to be harmed and account for some 30 per cent of all victims of landmines.

1/30/2010 More than 250 students and teachers from primary schools in 9 municipalities participated in the Intercultural Festival that was launched in Sarajevo at the International Center for Children and Youth. UN in BiH marks 30th anniversary of Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women


12/18/2009 The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) was adopted on the 18th of December 1979 by the UN General Assembly. To date, 186 countries have ratified the Convention. CEDAW remains the essential international tool for achieving women’s human rights and it is one of the most widely subscribed-to international treaties in existence. Countries that have ratified or acceded to the Convention are legally bound to put its provisions into practice. They are also committed to submit national reports, at least every four years, on measures they have taken to comply with their treaty obligations.

In the ten years since the United Nations General Assembly designated 25th November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, engagement has increased.  More groups and individuals, including men and boys, are getting involved in efforts to prevent and address this severe violation of women’s human rights.  Overall there has been significant progress as many countries have adopted laws and comprehensive action plans directly addressing violence against women.

Reduce child mortality

As with other health-sector indicators, BiH performs relatively well on mortality rates for both young children and infants. But ‘relatively well’, is not good enough for a modern country aspiring to join the European Union. The National MDG framework sets ambitious targets for 2015, which assume reductions in mortality rates of between 30 and 45%.
