Derventa Municipality Saves Money and Protects Environment

Derventa Municipality will save 15,000 BAM annually and decrease energy consumption by 45% thanks to the UN Joint Programme Environment and Climate Change. This was made possible by insulation and façade installation at municipal administration building. The UN Programme and Derventa Municipality jointly financed this 75,000 BAM worth project.

“Thanks to the simple yet affordable measures which save environment, the municipal authorities will be able to use saved money and invest it where most needed. It is our pleasure to see another municipality succeeding in significant energy and money savings, thanks to energy efficiency measures. Our Programme is implementing 28 energy efficiency projects worth more than 3 million US dollars countrywide. We developed 37 Local Environmental Action Plans and 5 Sustainable Energy Action Plans”, said Siniša Rodić, National Programme Manager/Coordinator.

UN Programme Environment and Climate Change assisted municipality in making its Local Environmental Action Plan that identified the mentioned energy efficiency project as one of the priorities. The decrease of emission of the CO2 by 26 tons per annum will be another positive outcome of the project, which has an overarching goal to reduce fossil fuel-based energy in Derventa by 5% within next 5 years. The energy consumption survey was produced for a total of 10 public buildings in Derventa Municipality.

The project was implemented by the Center for Research and Development, Tuzla.

The UN Programme Environment and Climate Change is jointly implemented by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Volunteers (UNV), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP),  Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in partnership with the BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations,  the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs, the RS Ministry of Civil Engineering and Ecology, the RS Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water-Management, the FBiH Ministry of Ecology and Tourism, the FBiH Ministry of Agriculture, Water-Management and Forestry, the participating municipalities and civil society organizations.
