Reducing water losses in water supply

10/7/2011 MDG-F Programme Democratic Economic Governance of Water Access organized a two-day long workshop focusing on water losses of the water systems. The Workshop was attended by more than 40 representatives of water utility companies countrywide. Participants are from MDG DEG partner Municipalities, but also other ones which showed interest to participate in such activity.

 

Using the model of exchange of experiences among partner Water-utilities, this was the third workshop within its capacity development activities, with a focus on the water losses in water supply systems, and how to solve this burning issue.

 

Statement of the program participant:

Themes covered within the workshop were developed on participatory base and were:

 

Reduction of water losses;

Diagnosing the state of water supply systems using SDNU approach;

Usage of new technologies and knowledge in dealing with water losses;

The effects of applying the new methodologies in dealing with water losses.

Finally, a model that includes domestic expertise, rich experience and readiness to cope with everyday problems. Feedback from participants was great and they supported this kind of capacity development activities. Discussions after each topic and presentation was very useful and substantive and gave opportunity to everyone to share problems, experience and lessons learned, directly from “real life”.

„We've set the basis for future cooperation, we dealt with the issues that are specific to all water utilities in BiH and seek the best solutions, which are applicable and feasible. The workshop was also used to present next steps and plans to implement this MDGF DEG projects in the future.
