Rivers and US – Photo Exhibit as a Part of Karst Project Activities

UNDP GEF project “Mainstreaming Karst Peatlands conservation concerns into key economic sectors – Karst” has, as a part of its micro capital grants scheme supported organizations for implementation of projects which deal with preservation of Livanjsko polje biodiversity and promotion of its sustainable development. One of NGOs, Centar mladih Livno, under framework of KARST micro grant scheme, implements project “Towards breeding and reintroduction of fresh water crayfish”.

Photo exhibit “Rivers and Us” by Andrija Vrdoljak from Livno will mark final activities on this mini project. Exhibition is dedicated to rivers and preservation of river eco-systems. Around thirty large scale photographs will represent interaction of humans, plant and animal species and water as a life support system.  Photographs show motives from three Livno rivers: Sturba, Bistrica and Žabljak.  These karst beauties are extremely endangered and sadly, life within them is slowly dying out. One of the examples is vanishing of fresh water crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes) which is already extinct in several streams, and has been marked as endangered species according to the Red list of endangered species (IUCN).

This exhibit is only a small attempt to alert local population and authorities on importance of preserving of our rivers and species that inhabit them.

Photo exhibit “Rivers and US” can be seen at the gallery of hotel “Park” in Livno from 26th of November till 5th of December 2011.  Exhibit opening will take place on Saturday, November 26th at 19:00.
