UNESCO presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The UNESCO Country Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina was established in October 1994, and was closed in September 2003 and replaced by a project office. The project office functions as the antenna office of UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Sciences and Culture in Europe and North America, located in Venice, Italy.
The Office works closely with the UNCT, specific UN agencies, and the Council of Europe, OHR, OSCE and other international and national NGOs.
UNESCO is involved in the following areas of work:
- Provision of technical assistance to its member states in the field of culture
- Promotion of the cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Promotion of the cultural heritage of South East European countries
- Implementation of a training programme for curriculum developers in Bosnia and Herzegovina under the direction of the UNESCO International Bureau for Education (Geneva).
