UNRCO - United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office

The UN Resident Coordinator is the designated representative of the UN Secretary-General and leader of the UN Country Team (UNCT) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). The UNCT is comprised of UN organisations, Bretton Woods Institutions (World Bank and IMF) based in the country and the IOM. The Resident Coordinator also ensures the involvement of UN organisations with no formal presence in BiH. The Resident Coordinator is assisted by a small secretariat.

The UN Resident Coordinator works with the UN Country Team to ensure an effective and co-ordinated UN response to current development challenges and promotes the collective voice of the UNCT in influencing policy debate and development in BiH.

The UN Resident Coordinator is responsible for implementing the Secretary General’s reform agenda in BiH. The overall goal of this agenda is to harmonise the planning and programming of the UNCT through targeted initiatives, the Common Country Assessment and the UN Development Assistance Framework, which identify BiH's development challenges and the UN’s strategic interventions which are designed to alleviate them. The Resident Coordinator also leads the UN initiative to implement the Millennium Development Goals in BiH and directs all other initiatives requiring a joint UNCT response.

The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office is responsible for:

• Supporting the UNCT

• Implementing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

• Promoting joint programming between the UN Agencies

• Facilitating the implementation of the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF)

• Harmonising and simplifying administrative procedures

• Administering UN Common Premises

• Preparing UNCT reports

• Organising UNCT media activities

• Promoting UNCT statistical initiatives

• Ensuring UNCT security standards
